Everything seeks its center: A BIPOC listening circle
As a species, we are in a time of upheaval. With the climate and geopolitical crises (connected to the rise of facism), we need each other than ever. Times of difficulty and chaos are fertile for transformation and only together can we journey into the darkness with courage.
Like the inevitability of death, this moment has been conditioned by centuries of violence, sparked by the human decision to split from 大地母親 (the Great Earth Mother). Our relationship to Earth echoes the violence of our relationship with our bodies. In this group, we will practice connecting with the body, which is so intimately connected with the Earth body. In listening, we can come back into reciprocity with all things; we can rediscover our place within the ecosystem of life, and find our unique calling.
Everything seeks its center. To come into balance is to make contact with the knowing beyond words— through the animal body— that we are earth. We are made of the same elements as this planet— fire, water, air, earth— and the flow of these elements creates life. In Chinese cosmology, the earth element represents the center, home, and belonging. It is only when we restore rightful balance with ourselves, that we can rest in a sense of peace and well-being.
Drawing from Chinese ancestral wisdom (Buddhism/Taoism), Indigenous teachings (including Hospicing Modernity), and psychological expertise, Dr. Vickie Chang will offer various ideas and practices for connecting with the Earth/body, to awaken intuition, and to ground in wisdom. This group will be focused on practice (60%) with room for sharing and shaping the offerings. Over 2 months, we will support each other in meeting these times with clarity and compassion.
Logistics
8 session group (90 min/session) with maximum of 8 participants
Mondays 4:30 - 6PM (Outdoor location in Berkeley/Oakland)
Weekly May 5 - June 30, 2025 (skip May 26)
Cost: $600-1000 ($75-125/session) based on access to wealth (full payment preferred, although payment plans, low fee slots available)
Consultation calls will be scheduled with each potential participant so that we can mutually assess fit for the group.
